Newfound Lake - Breathtaking and Pristine

Newfound Lake, one of the clearest, cleanest lakes in the United States, extends seven miles South from Hebron’s shores. This spring- and river-fed gem includes twenty-two miles of shoreline, created with the passing of glacier ice millions of years ago. Its sandy beaches and natural, unspoiled watershed have attracted visitors for over a hundred and fifty years, when travelers used to arrive by stagecoach from Concord.

Swim, Boat, Hike, Fish, Kayak, Ski, or Just Kick Back!

Outdoor activities abound: lake and river boating, swimming, and fishing; snowmobiling, snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing and snowboarding; hiking; and all manner of sightseeing, including one of the world’s most spectacular fall foliage displays.

Launch your kayak or canoe a half-mile from the farm for a relaxing ride up or down the Cockermouth River. View beavers hard at work, otters at play, and blue herons fishing.

For those who like to motor, West Shore Marine, situated at the foot of the lake, offers boat rentals and access to the lake. Wellington State Park, four miles down the western shore of the lake, offers free boat launch facilities.

Nearby natural attractions include Audubon's Paradise Point, Hebron Marsh, and Bear Mountain wildlife sanctuaries; Wellington State Park for boating, hiking, and swimming; Cardigan Mountain State Park with its Appalachian Mountain Club lodge and camping facilities; and Sculptured Rocks, a beautiful gorge on the Cockermouth River and ideal rock jumping and swimming hole.

New Hampshire has over 90 golf courses with 21 in the Lakes Region. The courses nearby include Owl's Nest Golf Club, Ragged Mountain Resort and White Mountain Country Club.

The Newfound Lake area is home to the New Hampshire Marathon.
